What does The Hair Doctor Shower Filter do?
The Hair Doctor Shower Filter helps reduce chlorine, dust, rust, iron, copper, heavy metals and other impurities from your shower water, helping to support healthier looking hair, scalp and skin.
How do I know if hard water is affecting my hair, scalp or skin?
- Dry, dull, frizzy or tangled hair
- Roots becoming greasy quickly
- Colour fading or blonde hair becoming brassy
- Hair feeling weak or more prone to breakage
- Hair appearing thinner where breakage occurs
- Dry, itchy or irritated scalp
- Dry, tight or irritated skin
Can hard water contribute to hair breakage or thinning?
Hard water can leave mineral deposits on the hair and scalp. This build up can leave hair feeling dry, rough and more prone to breakage. Over time, increased breakage can make the hair appear thinner, particularly around more fragile areas such as the hairline and crown area.
Can hard water cause colour fade or make blonde hair brassy?
Hard water can affect how your hair colour looks and lasts. Minerals and metals in shower water can build up on the hair, leaving colour looking dull and contributing to faster colour fade.
In blonde, highlighted and lighter hair, metals such as iron and copper can also contribute to unwanted brassy, orange, green or warm tones.
Can hard water affect dry, sensitive or eczema skin?
Hard water can contribute to dry, tight or irritated skin, particularly in people with sensitive or eczema prone skin. Minerals in hard water can also make it harder to rinse away soaps and cleansers completely, leaving residue on the skin that may contribute to irritation.
The Hair Doctor Shower Filter is not a treatment for eczema or other skin conditions, but filtering your shower water helps reduce chlorine, metals and other impurities that may irritate sensitive skin.
Will The Hair Doctor Shower Filter fit my shower?
The Hair Doctor Shower Filter is designed to fit almost all standard shower types, including handheld, rainfall, fixed and electric showers.
It simply connects between your shower hose and tap, or between the shower arm and shower rain head, depending on your shower type.
If space or fittings are an issue, we also have adapters available for certain shower setups. If you're unsure, simply send us a photo of your shower and we'll be happy to advise you.
How do I fit the Hair Doctor shower filter?
Fitting your Hair Doctor Shower Filter is quick and easy, with no tools or plumber required.
Simply unscrew your shower hose or shower rain head, attach The Hair Doctor Shower Filter and reconnect your shower.
Installation takes just a few minutes, and full instructions are included with your filter.
Please see video below
Will The Hair Doctor Shower Filter affect my water pressure?
No. When fitted and maintained correctly, The Hair Doctor Shower Filter should not affect your normal water pressure.
We recommend carrying out the simple monthly maintenance on your filter to keep the water flowing freely.
We also recommend replacing your cartridge:
- Every 3 months for households with 2 or more users
- Every 6 months for 1 user
If you notice a reduction in water pressure, check your filter and cartridge, as build up may indicate that maintenance or a cartridge change is needed.
How do I know when my cartridge needs replacing?
We recommend replacing your cartridge every 3 months for households with 2 or more users, or every 6 months for 1 user.
Signs your cartridge may need attention or replacing can include:
- Reduced water pressure
- Visible build up or discolouration
- Your usual hair, scalp or skin concerns beginning to return
Important: Not all minerals and impurities in your water are visible. While some cartridges may show orange or brown discolouration from substances such as iron or rust, a cartridge that still looks clean does not mean it doesn't need replacing.
Do I replace the whole Shower Filter or just the cartridge?
You don't need to replace your Hair Doctor Shower Filter. Simply replace the cartridge inside to keep your filter working effectively.
We recommend a new cartridge every 3 months for households with 2 or more users, or every 6 months for 1 user.

Amazing
Bought this after reading many good reviews. We have lots of limescale and even though we have a water purifier the addition of this device is a game changer. Immediately felt softer shin and coloured hair in much better condition. Don’t wait to get one, run to get one. 100% satisfied customer. Thank to the hair doctors 👏👏
Very soft hair brush that can detangle very quickly without pain. Great for children with long hair that finds it hard to comb their hair as it is painful.
Very soft and manageable hair.
